People / Aug Art Walk

Despite the scattered storms and Zika scare, Wynwood was bustling for Art Walk on Saturday, August 13, with a mix of vendors, tourists, and locals. Residents protesting the pesticide spray over the area walked up and down NW 2nd Ave with signs and handouts of information about Zika and the pesticide Naled. Other volunteers canvased the surrounding blocks handing out individually packaged DEET towelettes and natural insect repellant spray. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

I spent Saturday night people-watching in the Toejam Backlot as it filled to capacity despite the summer heat. The crowd was energetic and kind, eager to vibe together in a positive space after a dark week of gun violence & police brutality. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

Dark clouds and the threat of rain suppressed the crowd this month for Art Walk. I spent a relaxed evening wandering through the Wynwood drizzle shooting street portraits of anyone interesting I ran into. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

November Art Walk

Wynwood was the emptiest I've ever seen it on Art Walk. Mana closed everything down because of the thunderstorms, which surprised me, I thought this city knew how to handle a little rain.... More people started trickling onto NW 2nd Ave as it got later in the night, but it was a pretty desolate compared to the usual crowd. I took out my flash and had more of an intimate experience photographing people I ran into.  Slideshow for Miami New Times.
