Counter Corner: Irma Edition

Despite blocks of North Miami Avenue still without power, Counter Corner returned to 1306 this month to raise proceeds for those severely affected by Hurricane Irma. 1306 management and event organizers Sleeper Speaks and Juleisy y Karla were able to secure a generator last minute to provide lights for the queens as they performed. A modest crowd filled the venue with warm energy, excited to have a familiar safe space to return to after the storm.

Counter Corner returned to its new home at 1306 on Sunday, August 20, for another rowdy lineup of local, contemporary drag. Miami's favorite monthly queer party, Counter Corner, celebrated its move from the Corner Bar to 1306 on Sunday, June 18, with another wild edition of contemporary drag for a packed house. Hosted by Hialeah's Finest, Juleisy y Karla, the night featured performances from a variety of local queens, including Queef Latina, the freshly crowned New Times 2017 Readers' Choice for Best Drag Queen. Porn Nails and Midnight Thrift set up shop inside offering eccentric manicures and dollar buys on recycled clothes and toys between shows. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
