Fresh Paint
On Monday, July 25, police blocked off NW Second Ave between 27th and 28th streets in Wynwood as a mob gathered to watch Will Smith and the crew of Suicide Squad unveil a new mural themed after the upcoming movie. Local street artists Diana "Didirok" Contreras and Amanda Valdes spent a week collaboratively painting the wall. To hype the unveil, Warner Bros. threw an afternoon block party hosted by DJ Laz. Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado stopped by to say a few words on stage before the reveal. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
Kazilla
Kazilla is as bold and bright in person as walls she paints. I had a blast shooting the rainbow visionary with her new tiger piece at ALOFT in Brickell.
"Kazilla's multicultural misses and untamable wild things jump at their viewer thanks to her signature stark and occasionally tribal-like lines blending with bright, saturated colors. Her muses are often sexy, psychedelic, or carefree; they merge Miami's tropical touches with her New Mexican upbringing." Check out her full feature at Racked Miami.
Didrok
I had the privilege of photographing Didi in front of a couple murals she was finishing for different Art Basel projects around the city. This year female artists got a lot of attention for Miami Art Week, which is really exciting.
"Diana 'Didi' Contreras is known around Miami for painting intoxicatingly vibrant portraits of diverse women and for unapologetically depicting feminine symbols with strength and confidence." Check out her full feature at Racked Miami.
