May Fourth @ J. Wakefield Brewery
Despite the drizzly weather, Miami's Star Wars fan collective packed into J. Wakefield's cozy Wynwood Brewery on May 4 to drink beer in good company, while the original saga flickered on tv in the background. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
Critical Mass Miami
A slew of Miami cyclists congregated downtown on Friday, April 29 for the city's monthly critical mass meetup. It was still warm and muggy by 7:30 p.m., but clear skies gave the herd of bikers a pastel backdrop as they rode from Miami's Government Center to Hialeah Park and back. The Beyhive Swarms Marlins Park
Beyonce kicked off her Formation world tour in Miami with a show at Marlins park on Wednesday, April 27. Queen Bey didn't approve any photographers for the event, so I hung outside the park and shot the beyhive descending on Little Havana. Fiercest crowd I've photographed to date. III Joints @ The Anderson
III Points dropped their first big lineup announcement on Wednesday - Method Man & Redman will be performing live at this year's annual music, art & technology festival! To celebrate, III Points hosted a "III Joints" 4/20 hang at The Anderson, sounds and vibes provided by a cue of local artists and djs, including Mokibaby's distinct stacked tv installations. Counter Corner
It was a wild Sunday night at Counter Corner as Otto von Schirach filmed a music video for his Pee-Wee Herman single, and The Corner threw their monthly queer party featuring an eclectic cast of local drag queen characters. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
Floatopia
Floatopia was a hot mess this year. I've never seen Miami Beach so congested on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was a nightmare, and patrons left the beach completely trashed - there were so many floats and empty alcohol bottles it was hard to see sand. Windy weather blew in unusually choppy waves, which only added to the chaos of the sloppy crowd. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
