Kanye West / Pablo Pop-Up Shop
On Friday, August 19, Kanye West launched one of his 21 temporary Life of Pablo stores in Miami. Although he wasn't there in person, the whole situation could not have been more Kanye.
The store delayed opening two hours because they didn't receive their shipment of clothes hangers in time (obviously you can't put Ye's merch on just ANY hangers) - even though people had been waiting outside in the Miami heat for more than 12 hours. The crowd was hot and frustrated, but they kept waiting. Lowest priced item in the store was a $55 cheaply printed t-shirt, highest priced was a $250 bomber jacket. Images for GQ.
People / Aug Art Walk
Despite the scattered storms and Zika scare, Wynwood was bustling for Art Walk on Saturday, August 13, with a mix of vendors, tourists, and locals. Residents protesting the pesticide spray over the area walked up and down NW 2nd Ave with signs and handouts of information about Zika and the pesticide Naled. Other volunteers canvased the surrounding blocks handing out individually packaged DEET towelettes and natural insect repellant spray. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

Fresh Paint
On Monday, July 25, police blocked off NW Second Ave between 27th and 28th streets in Wynwood as a mob gathered to watch Will Smith and the crew of Suicide Squad unveil a new mural themed after the upcoming movie. Local street artists Diana "Didirok" Contreras and Amanda Valdes spent a week collaboratively painting the wall. To hype the unveil, Warner Bros. threw an afternoon block party hosted by DJ Laz.
