Mansion Closing Party

When I read earlier this week that Mansion was closing, a part of me felt sad. I'm not a club rat on my nights off, but if I have to be at a club, especially for a job, Mansion's my venue of choice. They're chill about people standing (and dancing) on top of the VIP tables so I can always get a better view of the crowd/DJ, but mostly I'm in awe of the aerialists who work every night. These women are acrobats. Their job may be performing for a mob of oblivious, intoxicated people, but they do it with such poise - it's always impressive to watch. I was excited to be able to cover their last big show.

Mansion packed a full house and a line up Washington Ave. for their closing party Friday night with Dutch DJ/producer Nicky Romero. The aerialists balanced within the frames of suspended black cubes, and Romero played an energized set that bumped late into the morning. The place was so full it was hard to move, but I was able to get booth access inches behind Romero and a standing, table-top view of my favorite dancers.  Photos for Miami New Times.

Young Artist Initiative @ Basement

Thursday, September 3, the Young Artist Initiative took over Basement Miami with a lineup of local artists who featured their work throughout the lounge. There were three small photo exhibits, four live painters, text design, a mobile 3-D installation on the skating rink, fashion-themed pop art, six consecutive DJs and one rapper spinning in two rooms concurrently.

The night started off slow, but picked up heavily after midnight - by mid-morning the basement was packed and still bumpin'. Over 1000 people came through to have a drink, dance, and support the local art community.  Photos for Young Artist Initiative.

Wynwood Brewing Block Party

Wynwood Brewing closed down the block of NW 24th street Saturday, August 15, lining it with food trucks and beer tents for a free block party to celebrate the company's second anniversary. I braved the crowded street with my camera and caught the city getting it's local beer buzz on. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

Go Hard Miami @ The Fillmore

Go Hard's U.S. tour stopped in Miami on Saturday with a killer 7-hour lineup including Tokimonsta, Griz, Destructo, What So Not, Rae Sremmurd, Mat Zo & Dillon Francis. Originally scheduled to be at Bayfront Park, the event moved last minute to the Fillmore Miami Beach. Slideshow for Miami New Times.

Aqua Girl Pool Party @ National Hotel
