Catwalk: A Night of Vogue
A small warehouse in Little Haiti brimmed at capacity late Saturday night, June 24, for Catwalk: A Night of Vogue featuring fierce competition of voguing, realness, death drops and serving face for a lit audience of spectators on a taped off runway. Emcee Nikki Blaque led the panel of local judges in their deliberation of face-offs and ultimate best-of awards for cash prizes. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
Counter Corner / 1306
Miami's favorite monthly queer party, Counter Corner, celebrated its move from the Corner Bar to 1306 on Sunday, June 18, with another wild edition of contemporary drag for a packed house. Hosted by Hialeah's Finest, Juleisy y Karla, the night featured performances from a variety of local queens, including Queef Latina, the freshly crowned New Times 2017 Readers' Choice for Best Drag Queen. Porn Nails and Midnight Thrift set up shop inside offering eccentric manicures and dollar buys on recycled clothes and toys between shows. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
Roller Disco / Faena Forum
Sunday, June 11, Second Sundays at Faena Forum premiered its new installation ángeles veloces arcanos fugaces by assume vivid astro focus with a '70s-style roller disco free and open to the public featuring projection visuals and funky jams spun live by local DJ Dude Skywalker. Skaters of all ages enjoyed an afternoon of colorful ambiance, cocktails, snacks, and games in the rink. Second Sundays will take place the second Sunday each month this summer. Baby Liang Gender Reveal
My good friend and fellow photographer Masson Liang is expecting his first child with his wife Jessica. They are donut and dog enthusiasts, as well as generally wonderful human beings and I am so excited for this next chapter in their lives. To publicly announce the gender, they threw an intimate get-together at their home with family while live-streaming the reveal on Facebook for everyone to see. The Salty Donut made a custom set of donuts with color filling as a fun and edible way to deliver the news! Baby Asher Kai Liang will be a boy and is expected to arrive in November.
National Donut Day
Wynwood's BarWorks hosted its second-annual National Doughnut Day celebration Friday, June 2, featuring a special dulce de leche doughnut from the Salty Donut, doughnut-infused brews from J. Wakefield, signature cocktails, and fresh bites from Coyo Taco. The two-story spot housed local sounds and a hungry crowd who enjoyed unlimited doughnuts between dancing, beer pong, Twister, and live art by colorschemer Cole Sager. Slideshow for Miami New Times.
